Rye Little League is excited to launch the 2019 Baseball Season. As a veteran parent or new parent to Rye Little League there have been some changes that we want you to be aware of. Rye LL is part of the ASAP (A Safety Awareness Program) that was launched by Little League International in 1994 after a focus group saw a need for improvement in the safety of the environment and the people that work with Little Leagues around the country. Their mission is to “increase awareness of the opportunities to provide a safer environment for kids and all Little League participants”.
In accordance with Little League International all local Little Leagues are required to conduct background checks on managers, coaches, board of directors, members and any other persons, volunteers or hired workers, who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with, players or teams. Individuals are also required to complete and submit a Little League Volunteer Application or a Returning Volunteer Applicationto their local league.
To comply with Little League International and our mission to provide a safer environment for our children we are asking that at least one or more parent/guardian fill out the Volunteer Application. This Volunteer application will be sent to LexisNexis for a national background check. Your application and information will remain confidential and results released to our President. The background checks will remain on file for the entire season and destroyed at the end of the season. Each year Rye Little League will continue to meet the requirements of Little League International with new background checks EVERY year. To see more information on why LexisNexis or more information on project ASAP go to www.littleleague.org.
